The maple sea salt latte is a delicious way to start your day. Espresso is sweetened with pure maple syrup and topped off with foamed non-dairy milk and a sprinkle of sea salt.

The simple is sublime with this maple sea salt latte! Perfect maple syrup sweetness, a kiss of salt to wake everything up, and perfectly frothed nut milk. That sweet and salty combo is irresistible with espresso. I also have recommendations for making it with regular drip/French press coffee.

I’m a maple girly ’til the end and have always enjoyed it as the sweetener of choice for coffee. Going a bit heavier with it and adding a fat pinch of salt really pitched up the enjoyment of my usual morning brew though.

I warm/froth milk with the steam wand of an espresso machine and always get a nice microfoam. Warming the milk up on the stove or in an electric frother also works here. Just start with a non-dairy milk that you love and you’re golden.

Grade A Amber is the most popular type of maple syrup and it’s the one that I keep on hand in my kitchen. Where I live in Canada, it’s pretty easy to find this locally. Hope you try this maple sea salt latte soon, lovelies.

MAPLE SEA SALT LATTE - The First Mess #dairyfree
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 shots espresso (see notes)
  • 10 ounces non-dairy milk

Equipment

Notes

  • You can replace the espresso with about a ½ cup of strong coffee if you like.
  • So far, the best non-dairy milks for frothing (in my experience) are homemade nut milk, barista-style oat milks, soy milk, Tache pistachio milk, Elmhurst cashew milk, or MALK almond milk.
  • I have the Breville Milk Cafe frother and I love it.

Instructions

  • Pour the maple syrup into your mug and add the sea salt. Pour the espresso into the mug and give it a swirl to integrate the maple syrup and salt.
  • Warm your non-dairy milk with a steam wand, in a milk frother, or on the stove to about 140-160 degrees F. Pour the warmed milk over the espresso mixture. Enjoy immediately.

I’m not normally a sweet coffee drink person but the maple/sea salt combo was so intriguing I couldn’t resist.
This is such a lovely well-balanced treat, we’ve enjoyed it hot and iced. I’ve made this with soy, oat, and almond milk – I liked the almond best flavor wise even if it wasn’t the frothiest. Thanks for the lovely recipe!

Wow, yummy! I love how simple this latte is. Easy to make and you most likely already have the ingredients on hand. I need my 4 shots of espresso in the mornings lol, so I used 2 tablespoons of maple syrup with 1/4 tsp salt. But I still used the same amount of milk because it’s already quite a bit of milk. Then I topped it off with a dash of cinnamon! Super cozy latte and I might try to make an iced version because this was so tasty :)

This latte is out of the world delicious! I am usually not a big fan of sweetened espresso drinks but this one — with the magic of sea salt — is delish. We adore this so much. I reduced the maple syrup to half tablespoon (ample for me) and increase the sea salt by a touch (I love salty stuff). I then sprinkled a bit of cinnamon and flaky sea salt on the top. My favorite espresso that goes with this drink is one with caramel notes (complement the sea salt and maple notes so well). Thank you so much, Laura!

I’m late to the party, but I just tried this one after making my first batch of walnut milk, and it came out great. The walnut milk even frothed a bit, which I wasn’t expecting.

What a lovely latte! Nothing beats the combination of maple and sea salt together. You have such awesome recommendations for podcasts and reading! I have been on a podcast kick lately and I need to switch up some episodes from my current collection. Have to listen to the Deliciously Ella episode because she’s a favorite blogger of mine!

I made it this morning; Really really good, the sea salt makes it so yummy. We’re in the same snow storm here in Quebec, and after spending a day shovelling snow and stacking wood yesterday, I’m happy to be cosy indoors today :)

The snow was so heavy here! Was grateful for the total hibernation mode after we shovelled it all out of the driveway.

What a wonderful post. It’s so snowy here so seeing your cozy sleepers, furry rug and sleeping pup is a great reminder that it’s the perfect weekend to hibernate! I am also trying the recipe with herbal coffee and I am so attached to my frother too – life-changing, right??

    • Laura

We really did hibernate all weekend! Basically only went outside to shovel and let the dogs out hehe. The frother really is life-changing during these cold months. Makes Winter a lot more bearable ;)
